Condolences
Bill & Laurie Halbert are to be commended for the great care they took of their mothers after the passing of their fathers. You two put on a master class for everyone and anyone who was paying attention the last couple of years. Kudo’s to you both for showing everyone how’s it’s supposed to be done. You took care of the people that took care of you all those years – your folks. The Hopkins kids are to be commended also for supporting their sister and brother-in-law-in their efforts to make Loretta’s final days as happy and comfortable as possible. One of the Halbert sisters said it best during the funeral service yesterday when she stated “she never realized what a special family she was part of”. She hit the nail right on the head. Nice job by all the grandkids that spoke at the funeral service. Great family. Rest in peace Loretta.
She will be missed. She was one of the last of the great ones of Guanoga! It was a wonderful place to grow up!
Loretta certainly was a cheerful and energetic community leader who schooled many Yates County people in the moral and right way to get things done.
I always appreciated her advice and upbeat conversations we had. I will miss her.

On behalf of Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes (formerly Rape Crisis Service of Yates County), please accept our condolences. Loretta provided our foundation and was among the first to recognize the importance of providing advocacy and support for sexual assault victims in Yates County. She was a true pioneer and had a profound impact on her community. Her legacy will continue to live on in the work we do each day.
I will miss her smile and big cheer for all. Always enjoyed seeing her and hearing her cheer at PY Track and Cross Country matches. A life well lived and a positive inspiration to all! She will be missed!
What a treasure! So community minded, loving, and friendly to all. Enjoyed cheering on the Mustangs with her over the years, visiting the Valley Inn, seeing her amazing gardens of flowers. Thank you, Loretta, for all you did to make the world a better place.
RIP Loretta. What an honor to have worked with her in so many public service capacities. A mentor whose wisdom was respected. Her love of family was a blessing to them. Thank you Loretta.
I was one of many Loretta taught to cook. I made an end of the garden casserole and she happened to be at my house when it came out of the oven with the veggies looking freeze dried. What’s that she says. I say your casserole. “I never made anything like that!” She took the time to show me how to layer the veg with the watery tomatoes on top.
Loretta was my second mom and my Godmother. She was a constant source of wisdom and encouragement. I will deeply miss her. Rest in peace sweet woman. Debbie Flood
