Obituary of Raymond James Kjar

Raymond James Kjar, age 94, passed away peacefully at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Penn Yan, New York on July 4th 2021. He will be remembered fondly by his family and friends as a kind, considerate man who loved deeply, was generous and was always ready to help others. Ray retired from Birkett Mills as head milller after 25 years in 1988. Until recent years he was an active member of Himrod Community Church where he served as a trustee. He was a baseball fan and loved music, nature and playing cards. Known as Yence by his family and close friends, he was proud of his Danish heritage. He was born in Davenport, Iowa and moved with his family to the Dresden area in 1931. He was predeceased by his parents, Kathrine Kristine Rasmussen and Niels Andersen Kjar, his brothers Victor, Harry, Robert, Ronald and his sisters, Viola, Marie and Agnes. He was also predeceased by his loving wife, Etta Tubbs Kjar, after 48 years of marriage as well as by his son Mark Kjar, his son Marshall Kjar, by two grandsons, Martin Kjar and Jeffrey Kjar and by his companion of 16 years, Christine Dunn. He is survived by his daughter Katherine Kjar of Canandaigua New York, daughter Janice Kjar Fox (Harry) of Spotsylvania Virginia, son William Kjar (Resa Baughman) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 6 great- great grandchildren. Friends and family may call from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday July 11th and 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday July 12th at Townsend Wood and Zinger Funeral Home, 201 E. Elm Street, Penn Yan, New York 14527. The funeral service will be held on Monday July 12th at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Branchport Cemetary. A reception will be held at the Moose Club in Penn Yan following the burial.
